What is HFG?

Healthy Families America® (HFA) is the signature program of Prevent Child Abuse America (PCA America).  The purpose of HFA is to support prenatal parents and new parents at the time their babies are born.

Healthy Families home visitation is based on the belief that early nurturing relationships provide the foundation for life-long, healthy development.  Our services support the development of positive parent-child relationships through regular visits with direct service providers that are relationship based. All components of Healthy Families are uniquely designed to promote the healthy attachment of parent and child.  Services are strength-based, family-centered and culturally sensitive.

In 1993, PCA Georgia, The Georgia Children’s Trust Fund Commission and the Georgia Department of Public Health brought the Healthy Families model to Georgia.

The Healthy Families America model has four primary goals:

  • Build and sustain community partnerships to systematically engage overburdened families in home visiting services prenatally or at birth;
  • Cultivate and strengthen nurturing parent-child relationships
  • Promote healthy childhood growth and development; and
  • Enhance family functioning by reducing risk and building protective factors.
